Edinburgh
Restaurants
Some Scottish food (and one Indian):
- Pickles - rustic wine bar with scottish cheeses and other produce
- The Ox - a pub with the best Sunday roast in town - would recommend if staying on Sunday, but need to reserve
- Dishoom - cool indian with nice cocktails (even without food)
- The Fishmarket - for Fish and chips
- There’s a few find dining restaurants on the Shore area away from the traditional tourist hotspots, but I have not been to any of them:
Coffee
Edinburgh has many high quality coffee shops, just some of them in different parts of town:
- the source coffee roasters - best experimental light roast coffee - not great for sitting in, but great for take away
- Williams & Johnson Coffee Co.
- Origin Coffee
Pubs
Just walking around you will see good pubs, all with good beer and whisky selections a few I like:
- Lost in Leith - belongs to Leith brewery (there are many of them), has a nice atmosphere when there are people
- Bennets Bar - big whisky selection
- The Bow Bar - a tiny old school traditional pub
- Three Marys - more about their cocktails
Day trips
There are many worthy locations around Edinburgh easily accessible with train or car for a day trip:
- North Berwick - coastal town in East Lothian (around 30mins away by train) - good cafes, restaurants and can do boat trips and beach walks
- Queensferry - coastal town under the bridges in West Lothian (around 20mins by train) - good restaurants, also can do boat tours, the old Forth Rail Bridge is very cool to see
- Dunfermline - (40 mins away) the old capital of Scotland, the center is nice and historic with Robert the Bruce being burried there
- Glasgow - Glasgow is only 45 mins by train, is the biggest city, with great restaurants, bars, cafes and night life and great sights around the University of Glasgow
